About the Author
About our author Ward Cockrum earned a BA in Elementary Education and an MEd in Reading Education at the University of Arizona. He has a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on Reading Education from Arizona State University. With over 30 years of involvement in literacy education, Dr. Cockrum's teaching experience includes being a reading specialist in a K to 4 school, a middle school reading/science teacher, a 5th grade teacher and a pre-1st grade teacher. Currently, as a professor at Northern Arizona University, he directs the Reading Endorsement Program and teaches a variety of reading education courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. He is a long-time member of the International Reading Association. He has coauthored two reading methods textbooks, Locating and Correcting Reading Difficulties and the Ekwall/Shanker Reading Inventory.
