Though not always historically accurate, the play touches on the many rumors and myths surrounding the controversial ruler. Was Richard a tragic character or one of history's greatest villains? The public's fascination with the last Plantagenet king intensified in 2012, when his skeletal remains were unearthed in a parking lot on the former site of Grey Friars Church in Leicester.
